Shillong in Meghalaya:

Shillong is the beautiful
capital of Meghalaya situated in the north eastern part of India. Shillong in Meghalaya is situated at an altitude of 1496 m above sea level. Shillong remained the capital of Assam, before the formation of Meghalaya in the 1974. Cherrapunjee, the wettest place on earth is only 56 kms away from Shillong. Shillong has beautiful lakes and waterfalls, and is set in pine forests and green mountains. Guwahati is the nearest airport from where Shillong can be reached by bus or car. Daily buses also connect Shillong with Guwahati airport. Pawan Hans Helicopters Ltd, under the aegis of the Government of Meghalaya, has commenced regular helicopter flights connecting Shillong and Tura to Guwahati. Guwahati is the nearest railhead and is well-connected to the rest of the country. Both Deluxe and ordinary bus services are available. Meghalaya Road Transport also runs regular bus services in Meghalaya.

Shillong Peak

An ideal picnic spot, 10 km. from the city, 1965 m above sea level, offers a panoramic view of the scenic country side, and is also the highest point in the State.

Cherrapunjee

56 km from Shillong is situated in one of the rainiest rain-belt in the world, 1,300 m above sea level. The lovely town is also famous for its limestone caves and orange honey. Centre of Khasi culture and literature.

Sohpetbneng Peak

1,343 m, 20 km from Shillong, regarded as sacred by the Hynniewtrep people, is set amidst a beautiful scenic view against the backdrop of a sacred forest.

Ward's Lake

Located in the heart of the city, popular for short garden walks and boating, celebrated its centenary recently.

Umiam Lake

Umiam Khwan (Barapani), 17 km from Shillong, offers water sports facilities including sailing, water skiing, water scooter The Orchid Lake Resort and the adjacent Lum Nehru Park is an ideal quiet holiday resort.

Along, Arunachal Pradesh:

Along, located at an altitude of 300 m from the sea level is the headquarter of West Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh. Along is a small town with beautiful villages. Along in Arunachal Pradesh is inhabited by Adi tribes. The picturesque surroundings laced with brilliant plantations makes Along in Arunachal one of the most perfect health resorts of India. The nearest airport is at Lilabari in Assam. One can hire a bus or taxi to Along. The nearest railway station is located at Silapathar. From there one can travel by bus or taxi to reach Along. One can also reach by bus or car from Likabali and Pasighat. Bus/Taxi are available from North Lakhimpur or Itanagar.

Ramakrishna Ashram

The place provides items related to Ramakrishna Paramhansa, Maa Sharada and Swami Vivekananda, their beliefs and ideas.

Hanging Bridge

Hanging bridge on the Siang River is another thing to see at Along. This bridge is made of cane and bamboo. The bridge is around 60 to 70 m long.

Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh:

Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh is the oldest town of Arunachal Pradesh established in 1911. It is the headquarter of the East Siang district. Pasighat town is situated at a height of 155 m. from the sea level. The climate of Pashighat is hot and humid in summers and temperate during winters. The nearest airports are Dibrugarh and Guwahati. Helicopter flights are available from Dibrugarh and Itanagar. The nearest railway station is Murkong Selek, at a distance of 35 km, from Pasighat and buses or taxies are available there for the town. You can reach Pasighat by bus, private vehicles or taxis from Guwahati, Itanagar or Lakhimpur, alternatively you can cross over river Brahmaputra from Dibrugarh to Oryamghat that is situated at a distance of 30 km, from Pasighat and then take a bus or taxi to Pasighat.

Daying Ering Wild Life Sanctuary

The Daying Ering Wild Life Sanctuary in Arunachal Pradesh is located at a distance of 13 km from Pasighat and is one of the few sanctuaries located on an island. During the month of September-February, a variety of migratory birds like Cranes, Wild Ducks, Storks, Water Fowls and Hornbills come here. Deers, Wild Elephants, Buffaloes and smaller predators are also abundant.

Pangin

Located at a distance of about 60 km from Pasighat and connected by road, it stands at a point where river Siom meets river Siang and presents a spectacular sight.

Haflong in Assam:

It is a hill station in Assam, situated at an altitude of 680 m from the sea level. Haflong in Assam is often referred to as the land of blue hills. Inhabitants of Haflong generally include Himar, Mizo and Naga tribes. The average mean maximum temperature varies from 24o C to 30o C. The average mean minimum temperature varies from 10 degree Centg. to 14 degree Centg.. Rainfall is heavy during the months from May to September, but it is not evenly distributed throughout the district. Climate condition is also not uniform. The nearest airport is 252 km away at Barapani, Shillong (Meghalaya). One can also reach there via Guwahati airport. Lumding Junction Railway Station, 60 km away, is the closest railhead. Haflong is connected by road from Guwahati, which is 345 km away.

Haflong Lake is one of the two lakes on the only hill station of Assam. This large and beautiful lake adds a celestial beauty to the hill station which is regarded as the 'Scotland of Assam'.

Maibong

Maibong, the administrative headquarters of North Cachar Hills District in Assam, is a small town situated on the banks of Mahur and is 47 km from Haflong in Assam. The city was the past capital of the Kachari kingdom from the 16th to 18th century.

Umrangshu in Assam:

This Hillstation is located at the borders of Assam and Meghalaya, 112-km away from Haflong. This hill station is bestowed with the natural backdrop of North Cacher Hills region. The picturesque hill Station of Haflong, 84-km north of Silchar, is the seat of the North Cachar Hills independent district council, where people of several ethnic groups including Dimasas, Hmars, Nagas and Mizos, belonging to various religious sects - Christian, Hindu and Buddhist - live together in distinct harmony.
