The second smallest state of North East India, Tripura, has 19 different tribal communities as well as Bengali and Manipuri communities. Culture of Tripura consists of the cultures of the different communities that reside in Tripura. Each of these communities has their own dance forms that together come under the banner of Culture of Tripura.
Tourists while visiting Tripura make it a point to enjoy the main folk dances of the land.
Hozagiri dance of Reang community gives a glimpse of the culture of the community. Garia, Jhum, Maimita, Masak Sumani and Lebang boomani are the dances of Tripuri community. While Bizu dance is of the Chakma community. Dances of the Lusai communities are Cheraw and Welcome dances.
Hai-Hak dance of Malsum community and Wangala dance of Garo Community are beautiful performances highlighting elegance in movement. Sangraiaka, Chimithang, Padisha and abhangma dances of Mog community are also well known through out the state. Garia dances of Kalai and Jamatia communities are often performed by the communities during their festivals. Gajan, Dhamail, Sari and Rabindra dances of Bengali community and Basanta Rash and Pung chalam dances of Manipuri community are also well known and performed in their respective occasions.
All the communities have their own traditional musical instruments. ' Khamb( Drum)', Bamboo flute, 'Lebang,', 'Sarinda', 'Do- Tara', and 'Khengrong', are some of the important musical instruments.
Long Poet Rabindranath Tagorehad had long associations with Tripura, which has given a rich cultural heritage of the state. Sachin Dev Barman and Rahul Dev Barman are some of the famous musicians the state has produced.
