Capital of Tripura, Agartala lies on the Haora River and is located only 2 kms from Bangaldesh. There are many temples and palaces in the Agartala. Maharaja Krishna Kishore Manikya in the year 1838 founded the capital city. Agartala consists of many villages and localities that are municipal ward and divisions. Some of the major areas of the city are, Krishnanagar, Banamalipur, Kunjaban, Gol Bazaar and many more. The commercial points of the city are Gol Bazaar and Kaman Chowmuhani. The city consists of Bengalis and the Bengali language and culture predominates the city. The main festivals celebrated in Tripura are Durga Puja and Saraswati Puja.

College Tilla is the college premises of Agartala. The area encompasses, Maharaja Bir Bikram College, Tripura University buildings, international cricket stadiums, football grounds, serene natural lakes and picturesque lush landscapes. Maharaja Bir Bikram college is the oldest degree college of Tripura, It offers education in the streams of Science, Commerce and Humanities. It is located in the south-eastern part of Agartala and is situated on a hillock which is called the "College Tilla".
Ujjayanta Palace is a Greek styled palace located at the heart of the city. The palace was previously located at the outskirts about 10 kms from the city. A devastating earthquake in1897 destroyed it and it was later built in its present location. Built by Maharaja Radha kishore Manikaya in 1901, the palace covers a huge area and is surrounded by beautifully manicured gardens, flanked by two tanks on either side, fountains in numbers adorn the gardens and the is styled according to the Mughal Gardens. The Temple is itself an edifice of grandeur, wooden carved ceiling, tiled floors and exquisitely carved doors are some of the areas of the palace worth concentrating. It is a three storeyed castle with three spectacular domes. It cost around 10 lakh to build the palace. In the palace complex there are many temple build around. Temples of Jagannath, Kali, Lakshmi-Narayan and Uma-Maheshwari grace the area. The palace is now the Assembly House of Tripura.
