Dibru-Saikhowa National Park is a national wildlife park in Tinsukia, Assam, India. It is one of the biodiversity hot spots situated in the south bank of the river Brahmaputra in the extreme east of Assam state in India. It lies between 27°30' N to 27°45' N latitude and 95°10' E to 95°45'E longitude at an average altitude of 118 m above the mean sea level.
It covers a total area of 650 square km which makes it the largest park in the whole of Assam. It is also considered to be one of the nineteen of the biodiversity hotspots around the world. Dibru-Saikhowa is among the most vibrant wildness on earth and is also distinct for her pristine scenic beauty.
Attractions of Dibru-Saikhowa National Park:
Biogeographically the area exhibits the properties of both the Indian and Malayan sub regions and represents the North Eastern India-Brahmaputra
valley biogeographical province. Dibru-Saikhowa National Park was originally created to help converse the habitat of the rare White-winged wood duck. The park is also home to other rare creatures such as water buffalo, the tiger and capped langur. Situated in the flood plan of Brahmaputra, Dibru-Saikhowa is a safe haven for many extremely rare and endangered species of wild life. Dibru-Saikhowa National Park, the only of its kind lies partly in Dibrugarh district and partly in the Tinsukia District. It is 13 Km from Tinsukia town which is 483 Km. from Guwahati. It covers an area of about 340 Sq. Km.. Of the seven parts of the park one part is wet land and rest is mainly grassland and dense forest.
The main attractions of Dibru-Saikhowa National Park are its semi-wild horse and white winged Wood-Duck. Other animals are Leopard, Clouded Leopard, Elephant, Samber, Slow Loris, Indian wild water Buffalo, capped Langur, Gangetic River Dolphin, Indian Wild Dog etc. More then 250 varieties of local and migratory birds are also found in the Park.
